Nordic Newsrooms and AI

Nordic newsrooms are exploring AI in journalism. The Nordic AI Journalism network, founded by Agnes Stenbom and Olle Zachrison in 2020, links media groups across Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden and fosters collaboration among these companies.

Stenbom started working with AI in 2018 at Schibsted Media. She focused on algorithmic bias. Now she leads IN/LAB, an innovation lab that engages 'news outsiders'—people who don't usually read or trust the news. IN/LAB works on projects to boost news engagement and inclusivity.

The network holds the Nordic AI in Media Summit each year, displaying various AI projects. Stenbom advocates for sharing AI experiments within the industry. She believes newsroom culture and transformation offer unique advantages.

In addition to leading IN/LAB, Stenbom heads Trust Initiatives at Schibsted. Her focus is on the credibility of journalistic processes and content. With the rise of AI-generated material, she stresses showing users how journalism differs from other online information.
