TIME and OpenAI have entered a multi-year content deal to bring TIME’s journalism to OpenAI’s platforms, like ChatGPT. The companies announced the partnership on June 27, 2024. OpenAI will access TIME’s archives from the past 101 years. Users can read TIME’s content on OpenAI’s products, with citations and links to Time.com.

TIME COO Mark Howard stressed the brand’s commitment to merging technology with journalism: “Throughout our 101-year history, TIME has embraced innovation to ensure that the delivery of our trusted journalism evolves alongside technology.” Brad Lightcap, OpenAI’s COO, said, “We’re partnering with TIME to make it easier for people to access news content through our AI tools. We aim to support reputable journalism by providing proper attribution to sources.”

The partnership isn’t one-sided; TIME will use OpenAI’s technology to create new products and improve user experiences. This collaboration combines traditional media with modern technology, spreading trusted information globally.
